As a small child I was mad on horses, learnt how to draw them, collected every type of model in all kinds of materials.
I was delighted when approached by a fellow Open University Art History Student to do a portrait of their show jumper 'Mo'.
Worked in gouache on a watercolour background really brought out the velvet texture of this thoroughbred horse.
Inspired by the George Stubbs painting Whistlejacket this showjumper is leaping off the canvas, through the frame.
The first draft was worked in watercolour but lacked the dynamic impact required for a horse of this stature, so this second version was created.
